Allah
subhanahu wa ta’ala has given us in the Qur’an many important
principles for co-existence with people of diverse races, colors and
religions and has also given us full guidelines for how to live and
interact with others. In this atmosphere of misinformation and
mistrusts between Muslim and non-Muslims all over the world, it is our
duty to live by these principles and also introduce them to others
- Our Creator is One and the same.
- God
created all human beings from the same parents: Adam and Eve. All human
beings are related to one another and are the members of one and the
same extended human family.
- Human
beings have been given differences of colors, languages, and races. The
diversity is beautiful and enriches life with varieties of cultures.
- All
human beings regardless of their races, colors, genders or religions
are equal and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Life,
freedom and honor of anyone should be protected.
- Throughout
history God has guided human beings through His Prophets and Messengers
including the last Prophet Muhammad. Their message was basically “to
worship God and avoid evil.”
- God commands us to live with, and spread, peace, justice and righteousness in the world.
Clear Guidelines of the Qur’an:
Let
there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error:
whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most
trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah hears and knows all
things. (Al-Baqarah 2:256)
وَالأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا {النساء 1}
Mankind!
Be mindful of your Lord, who created you from a single Person, created,
of like nature, his mate, and from both of them spread out countless
men and women and be mindful of (your duty to) Allah, by Whom you
demand one of another (your rights), and (to) the ties of relationship;
surely Allah ever watches over you. (Al-Nisa’ 4:1)
إِنَّ اللّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ {المائدة 8}
O
you who believe! stand out firmly for God, as witnesses to fair
dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to
wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to Piety. Be
mindful of Allah; indeed Allah is aware of you do. (Al-Ma’idah 5:8)
…if anyone kills a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading
mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed the whole humanity:
and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the
whole humanity…(Al-Ma’idah 5:32)
لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ {النحل 90}
Allah
commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin,
and He forbids all shameful deeds, injustice and rebellion. He
instructs you, that you may receive admonition. (Al-Nahl 16:90)
مِّمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلاً {الإسراء 70}
We
have honored the children of Adam; provided them with transport on land
and sea; given them for sustenance things good and pure; and conferred
on them special favors, above a great part of Our Creation. (Al-Isra’17:70)
Nor
can Goodness and Evil be equal. Repel (Evil) with what is better: then
will he between whom and you was hatred become as it were your friend
and intimate!
(Fussilat 41:34)
عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ {الحجرات 13}
O
mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female,
and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other.
Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is the one who is
the most righteous of you. And God has full Knowledge and is
well-acquainted (with all things). (Al-Hujurat 49:13)
يَتَوَلَّهُمْ فَأُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ {الممتحنة 8-9}
God
forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your)
Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly
with them; for God loves those who are just. God only forbids you, with
regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out, of
your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to
them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in
these circumstances), that do wrong. (Al-Mumtahinah 60:8-9)
