The word euthanasia is of Greek origin literally meaning "a good death." It has been defined as "the act of killing a person painlessly for reasons of mercy". The killing
may be done through active means, such as administering a lethal injection, or by passive means, such as withholding food and water.
Supporters of euthanasia argue that it gives relief from pain and suffering. Furthermore, it emerges from the human right to control their own lives and then die with dignity. They also argue that by ending the life of a hopeless case, another's life in need of a organ could be saved.
This view is a secular view which sees this life as all there is. The Islamic view is that a person's life should not be taken.
