The Day of Judgment
According to the Old Testament

What the Bible Says

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward ... Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart... What ever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might ... (Ecclesiastes9:5-10)

...then know that God has wronged me and drawn his net around me. Though I cry, 'I've been wronged!' I get no response; though I call for help, there is no Justice. (Job 19:6,7)

Why does the Almighty not set times for judgment? ... (Job 24:1)

What the Qur'an Says

Did you then think that We had created you in jest, and that you would not be brought back to us (for account)? (Qur'an, 23:115)

Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! That is the thought of the unbelievers! But woe to the unbelievers from the Fire.

Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who spread corruption on earth? Shall We treat the pious as the wicked? (Qur'an, 38:27,28)

Commentary

Although, every Prophet commanded his people to believe in life after death, there is almost no mention of the Day of Judgment, in the Old Testament.  Furthermore, many verses in the Old Testament deny life after death and consequently encourage people to enjoy the life of this world lawfully or unlawfully. This wrong belief confirms that the Torah and the teachings of the Prophets, have been changed by the materialistic Jews.

The denial of life after death did shake the Jews' belief in Allah and His justice. Therefore, they accused Allah of injustice and lack of mercy. Because many Jews had no belief in punishment and reward after death, all kinds of evil and crime spread among them to the extent that they killed many Prophets and tried to kill Prophet Jesus (pbuh).

In the Qur'an, Allah confirms that He created us for a purpose and that this life is a test and preparation for the eternal life after death. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will fulfill His justice and bring all humans to account. He will punish the wicked people and will shower His mercy on the righteous people who obeyed Him and did good deeds.

In this life many wicked people disobey Allah and commit sins and crimes against innocent people, yet they live a happy life. In contrast, many righteous people are persecuted and killed unjustly. Is Allah unaware of that? No, Allah only delays the punishment and reward until the Day of Judgment. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will reward the righteous people who believed in Him, followed His commands and suffered for His sake. He will punish the evildoers who disobeyed Him, killed innocent people, spread corruption and led people astray. On that day, the people who were wronged will get revenge.

Pearls of Wisdom

"None of you will enter paradise unless you believe and none of you truly believe unless you love one another"
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

All humans are dead except those who have knowledge; and all those who have knowledge are asleep, except those who do good deeds; and those who do good deeds are deceived, except those who are sincere. [Imam Shaf'i]
