Can Islam diminish violence in America? Well, let's first consider murder crimes in most industrial countries range from 10 - 100 per year, in the US, we have nearly 12,000!
Why do we have the highest murder crime rate? Is it guns? Canada has liberal gun laws, yet their murder rate is under 100! So, what is it that makes our society the highest in VIOLENCE?
Nearly 2/3 of all criminals released, commit more crimes and end up right back in prison. But wait ... there is an exception. Prisoners who embrace Islam are most likely to become model citizens, rate of repeat crimes is sharply reduced.
There are times when more than 50 inmates declared their Shahada (declaration of faith as new Muslims) in a single day / single prison. There are now hundreds of thousands who embraced Islam while incarcerated, some embraced it moments before their death penalty. Biggest challenge they have is getting enough copies of the Quran delivered!
Reflect on this, if Islam can enter the heart of hardened criminals and transform them to become good citizens contributing to our society, better yet, become national leaders and heroes contributing to our civil and human rights (such as brother Malcolm X). Imagine what it can do for ordinary people like you and me.

"None of you will enter paradise unless you believe and none of you truly believe unless you love one another" Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
All humans are dead except those who have knowledge; and all those who have knowledge are asleep, except those who do good deeds; and those who do good deeds are deceived, except those who are sincere.[Imam Shaf'i]
